Mullen Boys Near the Top in First Match of the Season
Tryouts over, placements decided, and it’s time to play, and that is what transpired on Monday at Broken Tee Golf Course in Englewood at the Cherry Creek Invitational. Kicking off the season strong is always the hope, and the Mullen linksmen showed up strong regardless of those early season jitters one may have when playing with a purpose. Mullen, with two teams entered, finished 4th with a total score of 232 and 11th with a score 244.
Team 1, made up of seniors Ryan Brady and Jack Newton, junior Ben Medina, and sophomore John Matthew Sedbrook, finished ten strokes back from the leader to finish 4th overall. Team 1 was paced by the matching 76 scores recorded by Brady and Sedbrook followed by Newton’s 80 and Medina’s 88.
Team 2, made up of senior Brody Meade, juniors Mason Kreps and Cooper Oatman, and sophomore Jackson Beldy finished three strokes back from a top ten placement and ended up in 11th place with an overall score of 244. They were led by Meade’s 77 followed by Kreps’ 83, Beldy’s 84, and Oatman’s 87.
The Mustang’s next match is Wednesday, August 9th at Kent Denver’s Sun Devil Invitational at Saddle Rock Golf Course followed by their first Centennial League match at Meadow Hills Golf Course on Thursday. The junior varsity team also plays their first league match on Thursday at Meadow Hills.
